Michelle Fyfe teaches Years 7-10 Science and VCE Biology at Collingwood College, where Stile has supported science teaching since 2021. For Michelle, one of Stile’s biggest strengths is how naturally it reinforces literacy and numeracy alongside science content. “It has just been so integral to support students with low literacy or with additional needs around literacy,” she said.

She describes Stile as an amazing resource for empowering every student, pointing to the literacy tools and scaffolding built into each lesson. Numeracy gets the same treatment, woven into lessons both explicitly and as part of the broader learning. “There’s always a little bit of numeracy embedded in a really authentic way,” she said. “It’s such a natural progression in the lesson that they don’t even question that they’re doing numeracy.”

That same thoughtfulness shows up in how engaged her students are, which Michelle puts down to how relevant and well-designed each lesson is. “All the lessons are engaging and so well thought out,” she said, pointing to how closely the content connects to students’ real lives. When the respiration lesson included a section on vaping, for instance, she was glad to see it. “It’s so relevant right now,” she said.

Michelle sees note-taking and study skills as essential groundwork for senior science. “By the time you get them in Year 12, it’s too late to start building up those skills,” she said. “We need those skills all the way from Year 7 and building confidence in those skills all the way up through to Year 10.” Stile X has made a real difference here by providing students with a scaffolded note-taking and study tool that sets them up for senior schooling and beyond.

Michelle talks about the continuous improvement she’s noticed in Stile over the years she’s been using it with her students. “It keeps getting even better,” she said. Asked whether she’d recommend Stile to other teachers, her answer was simple: “I would 100% tell them to give it a go.”

“My favourite thing about Stile is that I can pick it up at any point and trust it,” she said. “That’s why I love it and will keep using it forever.”
